Nozzleless spray cooling using surface acoustic waves

چکیده
Surface acoustic wave (SAW) atomization is an attractive approach for generating monodispersed microdroplets for a diversity of applications, from drug delivery to mass spectrometry, due to its reliability, miniaturizability, and portability. Here, we demonstrate a nozzleless spray cooling technique based on SAW atomization, with the key advantage of downward scalability: increasing the operating frequency facilitates the fabrication of a chip-sized atomizer to use in compact cooling of electronic devices. Using deionised water, cooling is improved by 15% when the atomization rate is increased by 40%; when the gap separating the SAW device and heat source is halved, the cooling is improved by 20%. By constructing the device such that the atomized droplets are easily deposited upstream of the flow circulation, the performance is improved further. The atomization of CuO nanoparticle suspensions (at 3%) increased the cooling performance by 30%. Merely increasing the nanoparticle mass concentration in the suspension from 1% to 3% leads to an improvement in the cooling by 10% due to the deposition and formation of nanoparticle clusters on the heated surface, thereby increasing the total surface area. Further increases in the nanoparticle concentration to 10% however results in a diminution in the cooling due to the increase in the suspension viscosity μ, that leads to a reduction in the atomization rate _ m μ 1=2 for a given input power. Finally, we demonstrate the concept of using tapered finger transducers to selectively enhance local cooling in a desired area by simply changing the excitation frequency, without requiring repositioning of the SAW device. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Determination of sediments diameter using acoustic waves
The use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientists recently. Since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they can be used in many scientific fields. The main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanisms of sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, p...

In this study, the change at rubbing surfaces has been investigated experimentally using an acoustic emission signal monitoring system. A steel ring is slipped on the surface of a metallic sheet to simulate frictional conditions. The mechanical disturbances caused by the movement of the ring produce stress waves propagating along the sheet surface. The out of plane displacement of the sheet su...

This study presents a systematic analysis of wetted region due to cooling of aluminum plate by water spray impingement with respect to different water flow rates, spray nozzle heights, and subcooling. Unlike jet impingement, the wetting is not commenced upon spray impingement and there is a delay in wetness of hot test surface. After initiation, the wetting (black zone) progresses gradually to ...

Spray cooling of a hot surface was investigated to ascertain the effect o f nozzle-tosurface distance on critical heat flux ( CHF). Full cone sprays of Fluorinert FC-72 and FC-87 were used to cool a 12.7 X 12. 7 mm 2 surface. A theoretical model was constructed that accurately predicts the spray's volumetric flux (liquid volume per unit area per unit time) distribution across the heater surface...

The heat dissipation capacity of air-cooled computing and telecommunications cabinets is limited by acoustic noise and fan reliability considerations. The present work quantifies the potential for thermal management of a sealed cabinet using an evaporating mist introduced upstream of the high-power electronic components. The proposed concept consists of droplets of mist being dispersed in the a...
